I have worked with 16-19 year olds at the local college alongside my Private Practice in Chippenham & Calne. I now work part time between The Therapy Rooms Chippenham and at my home address in Calne which is pet free, smoke free, and child free. A nice quiet space where we can really feel at ease. My work ranges from helping children and parents with behaviour issues and working with adopted & fostered children to supporting clients through different forms of anxiety, PTSD and complex PTSD. I offer Somatic Trauma Therapy, Psycho dynamic therapy, Psycho analytic therapy, CBD, EMDR, EFT.
Having struggled myself after experiencing a traumatic event as a teenager, I became curious about the impact of trauma on the family and the individual. Many people who experience trauma end up in a never ending cycle of searching for help and not knowing how to be helped. Rejecting help that is offered. They are not aware that they need to allow another person to help them. Trust is very difficult especially if you have been let down or rejected many times before in your life. I like to educate the client, and give them the tools to carry out some of the work themselves from within. Once experiencing trauma the client can feel confused , helpless and quite often will wish they could go back before the trauma experience, though of course this is not possible.
You cannot go back to how things were. A desperate feeling of loss can engulf you and wishing you could go back can be all consuming. What you can do however, is to give yourself time to heal, to come to terms with the changes that are inevitable and to find the new person that has come out of all the turmoil. A person who has learnt so much, hurt so much, and felt loss which is indescribable at times. But with time and the right support it is possible to offload the burden of maybe shame , guilt, confusion, low self worth, anger at times, even rage and regret. Eventually those bad days will become fewer and fewer and you will learn to understand why you feel a certain way on a certain day. Maybe you have been triggered or you have felt exhausted and unable to function ( but this is ok too) trauma affects some people in this way. Take one day at a time and do only what you feel your body will allow you to do. No pushing yourself too hard or asking too much of yourself.
I am happy to discuss your concerns with you by phone or by email. You just need to take that first step. I will listen and ask the questions so there is no need to worry.
Thank you for your interest.
